You will be enriched in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God. (2 Cor. 9:11)

Perhaps the most meaningful conversations I have are with pastors when I’m at events for church leaders. These rich moments all result from a faith-filled decision of generosity our leaders made just over a decade ago.

At the time, our church finances were tight—very tight. We were at the peak of our financial debt and often barely making payroll. About that time, church leaders started asking if they could purchase some of our materials to use at their churches. They asked to buy transcripts, videos, youth messages, and kids’ material. While there’s nothing wrong with selling quality products at a reasonable price, we believed God was calling us to a different path.

Even though we weren’t sure if we could afford to do it forever, we decided to try to give away as many resources as possible for free. Oddly, as we did, God seemed to bless us and trust us with more. As of today, we are a debt-free church with 27 locations in 8 different states. As of this moment, we have been blessed to give more than 10 million free resources to over 360,000 pastors.

So when other pastors get teary-eyed and tell me that the free resources helped save their church, impacted their lives, or improved their leadership, I pause to remember God’s gift to me through Jesus. God blesses us all—so we can bless others. And when you do, people will thank God because of you.
