Daily Power #72

What does the LORD require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God. (Mic. 6:8)

Early in my days as a pastor, a group of men told me I wasn’t cut out for ministry. I was leveled and questioned whether God had really called me to lead and pastor a church. Fortunately, my pastor reminded me that God’s job requirements aren’t the same as man’s.

Many bosses and employers want us to meet certain specific requirements, like a particular educational degree or years of experience in the field. They may want us to have training with certain software or knowledge of industry systems. It often can be frustrating when you are just starting out, because everyone wants you to have work experience, but no one wants to give you the opportunity.

But God accepts us and has special plans for us even when others—or even when we ourselves—can’t see it. We don’t have to apply for a position with God. We’re family. He adopts us as his sons and daughters when we accept Christ into our hearts and commit to following him. This doesn’t mean that God doesn’t require anything from us, but it does reassure us that he takes us just as we are. We don’t have to fulfill certain prerequisites before we can be saved by his grace.

Today remember that with God, you’ve already got the job: to act justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your Father.

Power Lift

Father God, thank you for creating me for your purposes and empowering me to do the job. Help me to keep my eyes on you as I go through my day, allowing me to walk humbly wherever you lead me.
