The United States now has a Department of Homeland Security to help ensure the safety of our American homes. It’s an important safeguard against terrorism, but a lesson might be learned from the Great Wall of China, one of the wonders of history. Upon its completion, the Chinese emperors expected never again to worry about security. No enemy could ever get past the forty-five-hundred-mile defensive wall, or so they thought. But the enemy did invade—by bribing the guardians of the gates and walking in.

Our government is doing its best to protect our nation’s homeland, but the real enemy—Satan—is effectively slipping into our homes. Almost everyone has been touched by divorce in one way or another, and America now has the highest divorce rate in the world.

Many divorces could be prevented if husbands and wives committed their homes to Christ and took time to build a spiritual friendship, one that included daily Bible study and prayer together. The hectic demands of our society make it important to spend time together having fun, going out to eat, taking in a ball game, chatting over tea, or enjoying a weekend getaway. Go, show your love to your husband or wife.

The enemy has a hard time bribing the guards in a marriage like that.
