He hears the prayer of the righteous.

Proverbs 15:29

The following statistics come from the Barna Research Group:

• Four out of five Americans believe that “prayer can change what happens in a person’s life” (1994).

• Nine out of ten adults agree “there is a God who watches over you and answers your prayers” (1991).

• One out of five adults has a time of extended prayer with members of their household during the course of a typical week.

If someone were to take an inventory of your prayer life, how would you score? Although prayer isn’t a competition between believers, it is a sign of constant communication in our relationship with God. When we don’t take time to get on our knees, it is often evidence that we have strayed from our walk with Him.

So how do we approach God after being out of fellowship? Micah 6:6 says, “With what shall I come before the LORD, and bow myself before the High God?” We are to come back with praise and thanksgiving—and He will hear our prayers.

Psalm 3:4 reminds us, “To the LORD I cry aloud, and he answers me from his holy hill” (NIV). Rewrite your survey, and be faithful in prayer.
