Deeper Life #103

We give thanks to God always for you all, making mention of you in our prayers.

—1 Thessalonians 1:2

WE DO NOT NEED TO be told that it is necessary to pray for our needy friends. It is obvious that the unsaved and those in difficult circumstances need our prayers.

But what about those who are full of sunshine, whose dispositions seem sweet with heavenly blessing? Do we pray for them as we should, or do we simply stand in awe of their joy and victory? Do we neglect to agonize in prayer for them? When our souls have been lifted into the presence of God and when the Spirit of God has stirred our aspirations at a camp meeting or convention, how much time do we spend in prayer for those who ministered to us?

When the ultimate truth is told, we may find to our horror that, though we have enjoyed and listened to men and women of God as they blessed our spiritual lives, we have been spiritually selfish. We have allowed ourselves to think that, because we have been blessed by their ministry, we would be presumptuous to pray for them. This is a snare of Satan.

Have we spent so much time in the exuberance of shouting, thanksgiving, and joy that we have forgotten that the safest place for us is on our knees?

Prayer Thought: Bless Your servants today, Lord.
