Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

THERE IS A PERILOUS DANGER in having no standard of spirituality except our own inward impressions. If we allowed everybody the same liberty, this would end in religious anarchy. The New Testament utterly opposes such a practice among the saints of God.

The Lord Himself is the one standard of conduct and character in the New Testament. People do not object to a man or a woman becoming outwardly holy, but they do object to his or her becoming a personal devotee of Jesus Christ.

The standard for creed, conduct, and character is Jesus Christ only. The standard of my life must be the same as the Lord’s—holiness of walk and character. My limitations and liberties must spring from my personal devotion to Jesus Christ and to nothing else. All who observe me should perceive that I have been with Jesus, not that I have formed some personal convictions about conduct and character, whereby I measure the Almighty and everybody else with whom I come into contact.
