But Peter said unto him, Although all shall be offended, yet . . . I will not deny thee in any wise.

WAS PETER BEING HONEST? I think he was. Then why did Jesus Christ discourage the very essence of his profession?

Are we called to profess our loyalty to Christ? Never!—no, ten thousand times never—are we to profess our loyalty. We are called to profess whose we are and what God has done. Realizing and acknowledging this, we are to stand upright in the hand of God. If we try to stand on our profession, we will fall as Peter did.

God wants to separate us from our profession. “Away with professions!” is God’s attitude. He wants to possess us. He wants us to be His.

Prayer Thought: Jesus, strip all self-righteousness from my witness for You.
