Celebration
Celebration
MY QUESTIONS for GOD
What does God say about celebration? Is it too extravagant for Christians?
A MOMENT with GOD
Nehemiah the governor, Ezra the priest and scribe, and the Levites who were interpreting for the people said to them, “Don’t mourn or weep on such a day as this! For today is a sacred day before the Lord your God.” . . . Nehemiah continued, “Go and celebrate with a feast of rich foods and sweet drinks, and share gifts of food with people who have nothing prepared.”
Nehemiah 8:9-10
The master said, “Well done, my good and faithful servant. You have been faithful in handling this small amount, so now I will give you many more responsibilities. Let’s celebrate together!”
Matthew 25:23
Praise him with the tambourine and dancing; praise him with strings and flutes!
Psalm 150:4
Ezra and Nehemiah were godly leaders of the Israelites, but when the people had completed the task of rebuilding the wall of Jerusalem, it was time to celebrate! God had helped them succeed. In thanksgiving and dedication, the people listened to God’s Word. This moment of joy and gladness was also a time for food and festivities—a holy party—to remember, thank, praise, and honor God and to dedicate themselves to him in a celebratory spirit with feasting and sharing. When you celebrate special days such as holidays, anniversaries, or major milestones, include these elements, which God’s people have long used in their celebrations. You will be blessed beyond expectation.
DIVINE PROMISE
LET ALL WHO TAKE REFUGE IN YOU REJOICE; LET THEM SING JOYFUL PRAISES FOREVER. SPREAD YOUR PROTECTION OVER THEM, THAT ALL WHO LOVE YOUR NAME MAY BE FILLED WITH JOY. Psalm 5:11
