What is the key to contentment in life?

Satisfy us each morning with your unfailing love, so we may sing for joy to the end of our lives.

Psalm 90:14

I have learned how to be content with whatever I have. I know how to live on almost nothing or with everything. I have learned the secret of living in every situation, whether it is with a full stomach or empty, with plenty or little. For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength.

Philippians 4:11-13

Contentment is among life’s most elusive qualities. The answer to the question “How much is enough?” always seems to be “Just a little bit more.” Your deepest contentment and joy come not from the pursuit of happiness, pleasure, or material possessions but from the pursuit of intimacy with God. When you depend on material wealth, it means you’re trying to build your own security, which leads you to crave more. The more you crave, the less satisfied you will be. But God has promised you that he is sufficient. Over and over the Bible teaches that human beings are most fully satisfied as they experience God’s unfailing love. As you receive his provision in times of need, your security is built on the everlasting God, and you find yourself thankfully content rather than asking for more in times of plenty or want.
