Disappointment
Disappointment
My Question for God
How do I handle life’s disappointments?
A Moment with God
Always continue to fear the LORD. You will be rewarded for this; your hope will not be disappointed.
Proverbs 23:17-18
A man planted a fig tree in his garden and came again and again to see if there was any fruit on it, but he was always disappointed. Finally, he said to his gardener, “I’ve waited three years, and there hasn’t been a single fig! Cut it down. It’s just taking up space in the garden.”
Luke 13:6-7
Dear friends, don’t be surprised at the fiery trials you are going through, as if something strange were happening to you.
1 Peter 4:12
Disappointment, in some form, probably haunts you almost every day. Perhaps you didn’t get everything done, someone hurt you or let you down, you let someone else down, or things just didn’t go your way. You may have experienced that awful feeling of not being “good enough.” When disappointment comes, you might ask “what if” questions that lead to regret, or play the blame game so that someone else is at fault. Neither of these responses is appropriate, and both can lead to discouragement, depression, anger, shame, or bitterness. When disappointment dominates your thoughts, you can end up a negative, sad, grumpy person. But if you see disappointment as an opportunity to learn and grow, or if you choose to focus on what you have and not on what you’ve missed, you can view disappointment from the proper perspective. Life is full of disappointment. But God wants you to dwell on what can be, not on what could have been. The next time you feel disappointed, remember all you have, determine to grow through the experience, and be happy that you have the approval of the One who really matters.
Divine Promise
This hope will not lead to disappointment. For we know how dearly God loves us, because he has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with his love.
Romans 5:5
