Habits
My Question for God
Why should I make a habit of reading the Bible?
A Moment with God
When he sits on the throne as king, he must copy for himself this body of instruction on a scroll. . . . He must always keep that copy with him and read it daily as long as he lives. That way he will learn to fear the LORD his God by obeying all the terms of these instructions and decrees. This regular reading will prevent him from becoming proud and acting as if he is above his fellow citizens. It will also prevent him from turning away from these commands in the smallest way. And it will ensure that he and his descendants will reign for many generations in Israel.
Deuteronomy 17:18-20
Jesus told [the devil], “No! The Scriptures say, ‘People do not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.’”
Matthew 4:4
Imagine asking, “Should I eat regularly or just once every few days?” No, you eat to stay healthy and alive. Jesus taught that God’s Word is spiritual food that you depend on for spiritual life. The Bible provides daily nourishment for your soul. This means you can’t read the Bible only when you get around to it. It is only through regular Bible study that you can maintain the right perspective about sin and holiness and God’s love. Without a regular habit of Bible reading, you will inevitably drift from God. And being apart from God gives you no chance to experience the mercy and blessings that come from a relationship with him.
Divine Promise
Even more blessed are all who hear the word of God and put it into practice.
Luke 11:28
