What does it mean to be holy and to live a holy life?

A Moment with God

I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all he has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice—the kind he will find acceptable.

Romans 12:1

I am writing . . . to you who have been called by God to be his own holy people. He made you holy by means of Christ Jesus, just as he did for all people everywhere who call on the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Think of holiness as both a journey and a final destination. To be completely holy is to be sinless, pure, and perfect before God. Of course, no one is perfect, so that is your ultimate goal, your final destination when you stand before God in heaven. But holiness also means being different, “set apart” by God for a specific purpose. You are to be different from the rest of the world, and your life is a journey toward becoming a little more pure and sinless with each passing day. If you strive to be holy during your earthly journey, you will one day arrive at your final destination and stand before God in holiness.

Divine Promise

Even before he made the world, God loved us and chose us in Christ to be holy and without fault in his eyes.
