Meditation

My Question for God

How does meditation help my spiritual focus?

A Moment with God

I wait quietly before God, for my victory comes from him. . . . Let all that I am wait quietly before God, for my hope is in him.

Psalm 62:1, 5

I lie awake thinking of you, meditating on you through the night.

Psalm 63:6

I recall all you have done, O LORD; I remember your wonderful deeds of long ago. They are constantly in my thoughts. I cannot stop thinking about your mighty works.

Psalm 77:11-12

I remember the days of old. I ponder all your great works and think about what you have done.

Psalm 143:5

I will meditate on your majestic, glorious splendor and your wonderful miracles.

Psalm 145:5

Meditation is setting aside time to intentionally think about God, talk to him, and listen to him. When we make the time to really listen to God, we remove ourselves from the distractions and noise of the world around us and move within range of his voice. We prepare ourselves to be teachable and to have our desires molded into what God desires. As a result, we change, and our thoughts and actions fall more in line with God’s commands.

Meditation goes beyond the study of God to communion with him that ultimately leads to godly actions. Remember God first thing in the morning, and fall asleep with him on your mind. Meditate on God as the source of the hope you think you’ve lost. Think about him with a thankful heart when you have plenty, for you will need him when you have little. Meditate on him and his great love for you. Weave him into the fabric of your life so that your children and grandchildren will learn to love God with a grateful heart from their earliest days. Meditating on God and his Word will keep your spiritual walk strong and focused.
