Will joy ever overcome the sorrows of life?

A Moment with God

Weeping may last through the night, but joy comes with the morning.

Psalm 30:5

What joy for those whose strength comes from the LORD, who have set their minds on a pilgrimage to Jerusalem. When they walk through the Valley of Weeping, it will become a place of refreshing springs. The autumn rains will clothe it with blessings. They will continue to grow stronger, and each of them will appear before God in Jerusalem.

Psalm 84:5-7

While the Bible does not identify a specific valley as the Valley of Weeping, it is thought that the pilgrimage to the Temple in Jerusalem passed through a barren valley of that name. The word weeping may have been a symbolic reference to times of struggle and tears that are often part of life—even for people on their way to meet with God. Whether predictable or random, the tragic losses of life affect all of us profoundly. The Bible acknowledges that sorrow and grief are part of human life. The psalm writer is clearly showing that faith in God does not keep you from going through difficult times; rather, it enables you to walk through those times and grow stronger along the way. You can take heart because sorrow does not have the last word. God redeems your losses with his promises of comfort and hope.

When you walk through your own Valley of Weeping, keep walking toward God. Don’t take a path away from him. God promises to relieve your sorrow and one day replace it with joy that lasts forever.

Divine Promise

He will wipe every tear from their eyes, and there will be no more death or sorrow or crying or pain.

Revelation 21:4
