How can I feel more tenderness toward others?

A Moment with God

You have seen what I did to the Egyptians. You know how I carried you on eagles’ wings and brought you to myself.

Exodus 19:4

[God said,] “I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you will be clean. Your filth will be washed away, and you will no longer worship idols. And I will give you a new heart, and I will put a new spirit in you. I will take out your stony, stubborn heart and give you a tender, responsive heart. And I will put my Spirit in you so that you will follow my decrees and be careful to obey my regulations.”

Ezekiel 36:25-27

Tenderness starts in the heart of a compassionate God. To be “carried on eagles’ wings” is an image that communicates both the power and the tenderness of God’s care for you. Although an eagle is a terrifying predator, it is also a tender nurturer to its offspring. The offspring can depend on it for food, protection, and preparation for life. Likewise, the God of the universe cares for you with tenderness and compassion. He replaces your heart hardened and dulled by years of sin with a soft and tender heart and plants a compassionate spirit within you. When you have the tenderhearted nature of God within you, you encounter many divine moments when you realize the depth of God’s care for you as you care for others. As you meet their needs, your tender heart becomes more grateful for the many ways in which God has met your own.

Divine Promise

The LORD is like a father to his children, tender and compassionate to those who fear him.
