Asleep In The Storm

Asleep in the Storm

Jesus was in the stern, sleeping on a cushion.
The disciples woke him and said to him,
“Teacher, don’t you care if we drown?”

Mark 4:38

Pause

The perfect storm blew into my family’s life on the day our eldest daughter was born. Doctors in Nepal couldn’t address her medical needs, so an immediate return to the States became necessary. I remained behind for a week because my C-section disqualified me from air travel. Gene had no job awaiting him in North America. We had neither home nor car. And we had no insurance to cover neonatal intensive care costs. Waves of fear swamped our boat—fear for our baby’s well-being, fear of an unknown future, and fear of financial insecurity. And that fear became the magnet that drew us closer to Jesus.

How could Jesus sleep in the storm? He knew everything was under control. We soon realized this was true as he provided for every need including coverage for hospital bills.

My friend, Jesus is fully aware of the storm you’re experiencing and he knows there’s no need for panic. Everything’s under control. His control.

Ponder

Place your head on a pillow and take a needed rest. Let Jesus steer the boat.

Pray

Lord, if you can sleep in the storm, then so can I. Please help me rest.

“We can find ourselves in the middle of God’s perfect will and in the middle of a perfect storm at the same time!”
