Give God The Controls

Give God the Controls

Trust in the Lord forever, for the Lord, the Lord himself, is the Rock eternal.

Isaiah 26:4

Pause

Gene and I flew to an indigenous community in northern Ontario to visit ministry coworkers. The copilot greeted us as we boarded the plane. In my humble opinion, he didn’t look old enough to shave let alone fly a plane, but that didn’t stop me from trusting him with my life. I knew nothing about this fellow or the pilot, but I didn’t waste a second thought about letting them take the controls. They were, after all, running the show because they’d trained for the job.

If we trust strangers with our lives, how much more ought we to trust the Lord? Imagine—the God of everlasting strength holds us in his right hand. He carries us and comforts us and loves us so much that he sent his only son to pay our sin penalty with his life (John 3:16). Do you think we can trust him with our lives? I do. We ought to have no qualms about letting him take the controls.

Ponder

Are you okay with trusting God completely with your circumstances?

Pray

Lord of everlasting strength, help me yield all control into your capable hands.

“‘You can have faith or you can have control, but you cannot have both.’ If you want God to do something off the chart, you have to take your hands off the controls.”
