Hope In Action

You who have made me see many troubles and calamities will revive me again; from the depths of the earth you will bring me up again. You will increase my greatness and comfort me again.

Pam and Bill Farrel were beyond exhausted. Besides trying to sell their home and downsize, Bill was caring for his parents, who lived seven hours away. Pam was writing a Bible study and managing their marriage ministry. Stress rose; savings dwindled.

One day they fell on their faces before God and wept, pleading with him to act on their behalf. They drew hope from the promises in Psalm 71:20–21—you will revive me, bring me up, increase my greatness, and comfort me.

Pam drew a pair of glasses in her art Bible and wrote the verses across the picture. For months, she recited them every time she put on her glasses. Prayerful persistence paid off.

God fulfilled four promises for the Farrels. He’ll do the same for you. Sometimes he acts quickly; other times, not so much. Don’t lose heart. Be prayerfully persistent. Be patient, and watch him work on your behalf.
