Let Go And Soar

But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.

Isaiah 40:31

Two bald eagles flew past my window as I wrote today’s entry. I set work aside for a few moments to watch the massive birds ride the wind. Using thermal currents to lift themselves heavenward, they embodied majesty and might. The sight of them soaring and circling higher and higher without even flapping their wings left me in awe.

Scripture says we become like eagles when we hope in the Lord. This means we acknowledge our need for his intervention in our situation and then trust him for the best outcome. In the process, we give him our fears and uncertainties. We surrender our expectations. We yield our desire for control.

Unloading these weights onto the Lord renews our strength and enables us to soar on the winds of adversity. We learn to view those winds not as a force sent to destroy us but as a means to experience God’s supernatural power at work in us.
