On Your Side

On Your Side

What shall we say about such wonderful things as these? If God is for us, who can ever be against us?

Romans 8:31 nlt

Pause

Anna lived with family while her house was being remodeled. One day she stopped by her house to talk with the contractors, and the police showed up. They told her that someone said she stole a package that had been delivered to that address.

Anna denied the accusation. She’d not received a package. Why would a stranger have used her address, anyway? The accuser pressed charges, and she had to go to court. If found guilty, she’d serve jail time. Insanity. Thankfully, Anna was vindicated, but the process was beyond stressful. Her only source of calm came in knowing that God was on her side.

God takes sides with all who place their faith in Jesus. In some cases, he proves their innocence. In other cases, evil seems to win. That doesn’t mean he’s taken sides with wrong. It means he’s working behind the scenes, like he did in Joseph’s life (Genesis 39). He’s on our side to make us more Christlike and prepare us for purposes yet unseen.

Ponder

What evidence have you seen that God is on your side?

Pray

Father, I trust that you’re on my side even when it doesn’t appear so.

“The simple statement, ‘God is for us,’ is in truth one of the richest and weightiest utterances that the Bible contains.”
