The Gift Of Peace

I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid.

For his sixty-fourth birthday, I gave my husband two hours of hands-on training with a marine diesel mechanic. My husband wanted to better understand how our sailboat engine operates, so this seemed the ideal present. The training equipped him for the best possible outcome should our engine fail while we’re on an excursion. I had no doubt that he would accept this gift because he needed and wanted it.

Jesus offers a gift of peace to us because he knows we need and want it even more than we realize this for ourselves. It’s ideal for us. It steadies us when our path feels rough and long. It guards us from fear and despair should that path take an unwelcome detour.

Let’s not hesitate to accept this gift. We access it by training our minds on the truth of who God is and focusing on his character. The better we understand who he is, the more peace we experience. The peace he gives is the gift that keeps on giving.
