Facing Winter - He Holds My Hand

Facing Winter

The quickest way for anyone to reach the sun and the light of day is not to run west, chasing after the setting sun, but to head east, plunging into the darkness until one comes to the sunrise.

Gerald L. Sittser

Dear one, I know this feels like the longest winter of your life. Just when you thought there might be a shred of hope that you were entering a new season, you face yet another storm. The bleakness of winter—with no leaves on the trees, no colorful flowers in sight, harsh temperatures, and blustery storms—reflects your emotions. You’re tempted to turn and run away from the demands of people who are counting on you. It’s just too hard. Too intense. Too unfixable. Too unfair. I understand your longing for a better life.

Be encouraged. If you face the hard place and lean into Me, I’ll teach you how to respond to the darkness and find light for your journey. Don’t be afraid. You are not alone. Place your trembling hand in Mine, and together we’ll face the obstacles until you see the light of day. Winter always turns into spring. I have a plan, and you will soon see My purpose unfold. Keep walking without wavering.

The LORD is my light and my salvation—so why should I be afraid? The LORD is my fortress, protecting me from danger, so why should I tremble?
