Quiet Strength

Some people wear their status on their sleeves. And if you can’t tell by looking, they will let you know by dropping a few names of people they associate with.

Other people have the same status, but you wouldn’t know it from the way they look or talk. They may have obvious leadership skills, but they don’t have the self-promoting attitude to go with it. They know how to make others feel significant.

True humility focuses on building others up. It’s embracing the idea that God created each one for a particular place and time, and it’s being completely comfortable viewing others with exactly the same significance. When someone can do that, it becomes much easier to let go of status or an unhealthy need for respect.

The best way to earn respect is to respect others simply because they are who they are. Those who have that attitude make the best spouses, family members, teammates, friends, and business partners. Humility earns the respect that pride seeks.

and this is what he requires of you:

to do what is right, to love mercy,

and to walk humbly with your God.
