Tough Love
Tough Love
It must have been a tough assignment to go from being the Son of God on His Father’s right hand to being a regular guy on earth.
Jesus had to endure beatings, scourging, a crown of thorns, spittle, cursing, and then being hanged on a cross.
The truth is that we would have been eternally lost if He had not done all of that.
God’s plan was to save His people, and the only way God could eternally pardon us was through His Son—Jesus Christ.
Jesus became a flesh-and-blood man, a human being with desires and passions similar to ours, except for one difference: He was without sin. In His humanity He identified with us, but more than that, we identified with Him. And that drew us closer to Him—a blessed place to be.
His Promises
When we were utterly helpless, Christ came at just the right time and died for us sinners. Now, most people would not be willing to die for an upright person, though someone might perhaps be willing to die for a person who is especially good. But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners.
You, O Lord,
are a God of compassion and mercy,
slow to get angry
and filled with unfailing love and faithfulness.
The LORD must wait for you to come to him
so he can show you his love and compassion.
For the LORD is a faithful God.
Blessed are those who wait for his help.
