Then King David went in and sat before the LORD.
1 Chronicles 17:16
Do not be afraid of silence in your prayer time. It may be that you are meant to listen, not to speak. So wait before the Lord. Wait in stillness. Wait as David waited when he “sat before the LORD.”
And in that stillness, assurance will come to you. You will know that you are heard; you will know that your Lord ponders the voice of your humble desires; you will hear quiet words spoken to you yourself, perhaps to your grateful surprise and refreshment.

Pray About It: Miss Carmichael practiced silence before God. But she also practiced silence about her needs before people. As with George Mueller, J. Hudson Taylor, and many others, Amy Carmichael never made the needs of her orphanage known. When the temptation came to let others know of some special need, God whispered, “I know, and that is enough.” Indeed it was. Her testimony is that “never once in fifteen years has a bill been left unpaid. Never once has a man or woman been told when we were in need of help. But never once have we lacked any good thing.”
Today, refresh yourself in silence—both before God and man. God isn’t impressed by our many words and He alone knows your need.
Speak few words, but listen as long as you wish. Wait in stillness.
Fall on your knees and grow there. There is no burden of spirit but is lighter by kneeling under it. Prayer means not always talking to Him, but waiting before Him till the dust settles and the stream runs clear.
