Magnificent Prayer #236

Magnificent Prayer #236

The LORD Almighty, wonderful in counsel and magnificent in wisdom.

Isaiah 28:29

The magnificence of all true prayer—its nobility, its royalty, its absolute divinity—all stand in this: that it is the greatest act and office that man or angel can ever enter on or perform. Earth is at its very best, and heaven is at its highest, when men and angels magnify their duty of prayer and of praise before the throne of God. The magnificence of God is the source and the measure of the magnificence of prayer.

ALEXANDER WHYTE

Pray About It: Prayer is magnificent first, because it’s the highest calling for man. There’s nothing else we can do that surpasses prayer. It’s our ultimate activity.

Secondly, prayer is magnificent because the God to whom we pray is Magnificent. As Paternus, a fifthcentury Christian, told his son, “Think magnificently of God.”

Make that your motto today.

O, believing brethren! What an instrument is this which God hath put into your hands! Prayer moves Him that moves the universe.
