Magnificent Prayer #238
But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day. The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.
2 Peter 3:8–9
God’s movement seems so slow to us. His march through history, the coming of justice to the weak and oppressed, the shining of light in the dark places—all this has so often been called slow. God is so big, so great. He is moving steadily on. The apparent slowness only spells out the greatness of His size and of His plans. It takes time to swing great things forward. Time is but a hyphen between two eternities. God lives and moves in eternity. He breathes in the atmosphere of greatness.

Pray About It: Time flows forward at God’s command. We weigh our prayer list against the fast-moving calendar and wonder at God’s slow movement. But to God a thousand years is but a day. He’s never slow—we are simply too fast. His apparent slowness is a measure of His greatness. This is the one to whom we pray—the Ancient of Days. Thank Him for His slowness, because it shows itself also in His slowness to anger.
Oswald Chambers had a motto when it came to waiting for God: “Let God engineer.” When God is slow according to our timetable, we get restless and want God to hurry up. Sometimes our impatience prompts us to try and take matters into our own hands.
But relax. God knows your need. And in only the twinkling of an eye this life shall all be behind us and eternity with God stretched out in an endless line of glory. Until then, let God engineer.
