A man must have some definite object before his mind. He cannot pray effectively for a variety of objects at once. The mind of man is so constituted that it cannot fasten its desires intensely upon many things at the same time. All the instances of effectual prayer recorded in the Bible were of this kind. Wherever you see that the blessing sought for in prayer was attained, you will find that the prayer which was offered was prayer for that definite object.

Pray About It: Order your requests so that when you pray for something, it’s foremost on your mind. Be definite with God. Tell Him the need exactly. Let Him answer in His own way, but He wants you to articulate the definite need. This causes us to be exacting in our prayers—and in other areas of our life. Learn to say only in prayer exactly what you mean. God doesn’t want us to be scatterbrained or offer religious platitudes when we pray.
The prayer that prevails is strikingly specific. It narrows itself right down to one object, which presses itself on the attention, and on the heart, and fills the vision, and becomes for the time the supreme object to be sought, and obtained, if need be, by the supreme act of the life of the petitioner.
