Mom Heart Moments #110
Learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart.
EZEKIEL 28:12-16 TELLS US THAT God created Satan (Lucifer) as one of the highest angels in heaven. He was crafted in beauty and clothed in precious jewels —ruby, topaz, diamond, and emerald set in gold. His beauty and splendor were magnificent. God created him blameless (Ezekiel 28:15). And yet Scripture tells us Satan’s heart was lifted up because of his beauty. As Satan looked at himself, he became exalted in confidence at his own glory and lifted himself above God in his mind. This extreme esteem of himself became the ground in which sin would grow.
Satan said in his heart, “I will ascend to heaven; I will raise my throne above the stars of God . . . I will make myself like the Most High” (Isaiah 14:13-14).
And so it was Satan’s pride in himself, his arrogance, that was the seed for all corruption and sin and wickedness in the world, the starting point for sin to grow and flourish.
In precise, striking contrast to Satan, who would exalt himself above all at any cost, crushing and killing the souls of all people in order that God would not have their allegiance, Jesus comes to bow His knee before the Father and willingly lays down His life for all —even the very lowly —to serve, wash their feet, heal their diseases, and forgive their worst deeds.
So all pride and exalting of myself makes me less like Jesus. Any time anything I have done or accomplished makes me think, I am better than you, I’m heading in the direction of Satan’s attitude rather than that of Jesus.
Have you ever thought of pride as being dangerous because it mimics Satan’s original step away from God? Lay down the burden of pride today.
