God is not unjust so as to forget your work and the love which you have shown toward His name, in having ministered and in still ministering to the saints.

ALL OF US WHO HAVE LOVED and known Jesus have truth to share with those around us who are hungry and yet have no guidance or truth. Ministry means reaching out to those in our spheres of influence to share His words, His love, and His ways, knowing that when we see Him face to face, we will have to give an account for all that we knew and how we invested those truths for the benefit of those around us.

Studying the life of Jesus has set me on a different course in my ministry. God could have come to us as a king with miraculous powers and untold wealth, performing stunning spectacles for the whole world to see.

Instead, He came as a commoner. Down in the dirt with sinners, He washed their feet, put mud on their blind eyes, drew in the sand. Rejoicing in the joy of mothers, He caressed children, tousled hair, smiled into their shy little eyes. Sympathizing with the brokenhearted, He told stories of prodigals and accepted the touch of a forgiven prostitute as she poured out her gratitude upon His feet. He served meals, washed toes, gave words of life, and expressed His anger upon the self-righteous. His words, “Learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart” (Matthew 11:29), continue to capture my imagination.

So, my life needs to characterize His life —as I learn to serve, love, give, and offer words of life, and as I invest in people one at a time, personally, face to face, life story to life story.
