Mom Heart Moments #152

Be still, and know that I am God.

Psalm 46:10, NIV

“I FEEL SO GUILTY! It seems I never have time with God lately,” my sweet friend said. “With three children under five underfoot, when they finally go to bed, all I want to do is collapse. And honestly, I don’t feel like spending the little time I have left studying my Bible.”

When I had children of the same ages as hers, I thought someday my life would slow down and become more manageable, and then I’d have more time to study the Bible in a leisurely way. I am still waiting! While the intensity of the preschool years doesn’t last forever, there will always be plenty of things vying for our time. That’s why it’s important to find a plan for meeting with God that works for each unique stage of our lives, recognizing that some days the best we can do is to talk with Him as we go about our tasks.

One day, when my kids were older and I thought I was on the brink of having more time, I was up early to have tea with Clay. I needed to take Joy to work by nine and Sarah to the doctor. Joel wrote to us about a big issue that he needed to make a decision about, and he wanted counsel. I had to pick up Joy after work and take her downtown to driver’s ed, and then I was meeting with a friend. There were errands in town to run. At some point, I figured I should probably wash the previous night’s dinner dishes, which were still in the sink because it was too late to face them when the activities of the day were over. Nathan asked me to do him a favor, which would take an hour in the middle of the day, and I still had articles to write, emails to answer, and . . . and . . . and.

See what I mean?

It is a choice of my will, a choice to worship Him, in the midst of my busy day —this day that He created for me to walk through. If I recognize this, then every minute is a minute spent with Him.

Your days may be overwhelming too. How can you be reminded that each moment can be one spent with Him?
