Mom Heart Moments #154
“Let him who boasts boast of this, that he understands and knows Me, that I am the LORD who exercises lovingkindness, justice and righteousness on earth . . . ,” declares the LORD.
THE SMELL OF CINNAMON ROLLS fills the air as yet another birthday child comes down the stairs, ready for our well-worn tradition of a special breakfast to mark the day. I’m reminded that even as I take joy in planning for my children to feel loved on their birthdays with special treats and celebrations, I receive great pleasure when the child is blessed and responds to my preparations. God, too, delights in us coming to Him for provision and then responding joyfully when He gives it.
He has even provided things we don’t “need,” just to delight us —the reds, golds, browns, and oranges of fall leaves; the dark, steel blue of an ocean; the dark green or blue or amber of loved ones’ eyes. He provided Adam and Eve with food with all sorts of tastes. He provided them with a garden of grand design to live in and clothing after they fell away from Him. Jesus provided the crowds with fish and loaves because they were hungry, and of course He has provided a way for us to be made right with God by offering His own body as the ultimate sacrifice. He has gone and is even now preparing to provide a place for us —a home in heaven —so we might be with Him in eternity.
Our children will learn how to recognize God as a provider as we provide for them —comfort during illness, food for feasting and celebrating life, music for dancing and singing. So these tasks we have in our homes are not meaningless, but filled with His very presence when we understand that in providing needs and desires, we are acting in the image of God.
God loves providing for you! How can you provide beauty or love or comfort to your family in the next twenty-four hours?
