Mom Heart Moments #36

Let us consider how to stimulate one another to love and good deeds.

Hebrews 10:24

MANY YEARS AGO I heard a prominent speaker relate this wonderfully wise principle: “I will do anything to put myself in the company of people who make me want to love God more, to be more excellent, to set a standard of excellence in my life, to live up to my potential as a believer. I will also do whatever I can to avoid those who are drainers —those who steal my joy, who keep me from wanting to grow in my faith, who complain and criticize other people, or who tempt me to discouragement.”

There are not many people whose lives really encourage me to press on, to walk in the presence of the Lord, to love others graciously and unconditionally, and to believe God with all my heart. Thankfully, though, there are a few people who do make me feel more filled up when I have spent time with them —ready to face life again, to finish well, to trust God. Those are the people I try to spend the most time with!

I have often shared that if you want to find the best kind of friend, find someone you can do ministry with —someone who loves God and wants to make a difference in the world. In the midst of working together, praying, and serving people, you will grow together in memory making, faith, and accountability. The strings of your hearts become knit together by the Holy Spirit as you invest together in Kingdom work.

Do you have friends who encourage you and push you forward? Make a plan to get together with them soon. If not, begin to pray that God will send you this type of friend —and make you one too!
