Mom Heart Moments #46

Mom Heart Moments #46

Two are better than one because they have a good return for their labor. For if either of them falls, the one will lift up his companion. But woe to the one who falls when there is not another to lift him up.

Ecclesiastes 4:9-10

MY WONDERFUL FRIEND Phyllis is a kindred spirit. She has a life full of responsibilities, and we don’t get to see each other often because of our mutually busy schedules. But I set aside time to get together with her whenever possible because I know she will have been in the presence of the Lord, and I need the encouragement she has to offer! Whether we simply chitchat or share deep secrets, I will be exposed to a heart that has been planted in Scripture, watered with faith, and enlightened by the presence of the Lord.

Just being with her will fill my cup, point me in the right direction, and give me perspective. She has walked with the Lord for many years —one day, one devotional, one prayer at a time. Her wisdom is cumulative, from decades of experience in seeing God’s faithfulness and learning how to live by faith. Every time we are together, I know she will share wise insight on how to look at life.

Over the years, I have purposefully sought to find friends who have the life of Christ bubbling up within them, in order to fill my own heart with wisdom from those who drive me to pursue God in His holiness. Positive peer pressure, you might say!

Excellent women are hard to come by. The ones I’ve known are dedicated to pursuing God no matter what, and their priorities show the investment they have made. Making it a habit to spend time with God on a regular basis, to walk obediently in service to Him, to study and follow Him, knowing His ways —these are just a few of their commitments that make them excellent friends.

What kind of friend are you? How are you shaping your own soul to be one that others can draw from?
