Mom Heart Moments #49

When you pray, go into your inner room, close your door and pray to your Father who is in secret, and your Father who sees what is done in secret will reward you.

Matthew 6:6

GOD HAS SEEN US THROUGH MANY, many difficult seasons as well as simpler, more pleasant ones in the past, so I can trust Him with the present and all that is to come. I’ve called on Him all these mornings, with secret prayers no one else could hear and hope for the future settled in my heart.

This life is a daily adventure. My own “inner room” helps see me through. It is a one-woman sanctuary, in the darkness of a presunrise room, where, through prayer and the living Word, miracles are taking place and the Father is whispering His love and assurance to my heart day by day, month by month, and year by year. It is a story of great blessing between a fragile child and a gentle, patient, strong Father who cares.

Most of us don’t have space in our homes for a dedicated prayer room —but we can create a space for prayer, nonetheless! A corner of the couch, your favorite comfy chair, even a neighborhood sidewalk or park where you can run or walk and talk to God alone —plus maybe a basket or drawer where you can stash your Bible and journal and some encouraging books —that’s all it takes. If your children wake before you’re finished? No worries, just tell them you’re having time with Jesus and need to be alone a bit longer —or have them get their own Bibles and join you.

Developing a habit of praying in secret is essential to a life lived well. Have you come to believe the truth here —that your Father sees what is done in secret and that He will reward you? Pray that He will help your unbelief and increase your faith.
