Morning By Morning #25
Morning by Morning #25
I will tell of the kindnesses of the LORD, the deeds for which he is to be praised, according to all the LORD has done for us.
Isaiah 63:7
From the pen of Charles Spurgeon:
Can you do this? Aren’t there “kindnesses of the LORD” you have experienced? Although you may be sad and dejected now, can’t you remember that blessed hour when Jesus met you and said, “Come to me” (Matt. 11:28)? Can’t you remember that glorious moment when He snapped your shackles, cast your chains to the ground, and said, “I came to break your bonds and set you free”?
Even if your spiritual passion has faded, surely there must be a precious mile marker along the road of life that is not yet covered with moss—one on which you can still read a happy reminder of His mercy toward you.
What! Did you never have a sickness—perhaps like the one that you are now suffering—from which He did not restore you? Were you never poor that He did not supply your needs? Were you never in distressing circumstances that He did not deliver you?
Get up! Go to the river of your own experience, pull up a few bulrushes, weave them into an ark, and put your baby faith safely afloat. Don’t forget what your God has done for you. Turn back the pages of the book of your memory and consider your past. Can you remember Mount Mizar? (See Ps.42:5 – 6.) Did the Lord never meet with you at Mount Hermon? Have you never climbed these glorious mountains? Have you never been helped in your time of need?
No, I know you have! Think back a short time to the best memories of your life, and although everything may appear dark right now, illumine the lamps of the past. They will glisten through the darkness, and then you will trust in the Lord while you watch a new day dawn and see the shadows of night vanish.
“Remember, O LORD, your great mercy and love, for they are from of old” (Ps. 25:6).
From the pen of Jim Reimann:
Quite often the Scriptures admonish us to remember the past.
Remember those earlier days after you had received the light, when you stood your ground in a great contest in the face of suffering. Sometimes you were publicly exposed to insult and persecution; at other times you stood side by side with those who were so treated. You sympathized with those in prison and joyfully accepted the confiscation of your property, because you knew that you yourselves had better and lasting possessions. So do not throw away your confidence; it will be richly rewarded. You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised.
Hebrews 10:32-36
I could never forget the day the Lord saved me, rescuing me from eternal destruction! Yet why do I often walk in a way that shows such a lack of trust in Him?
Dear Father, may I make a determination even now to “tell of the kindnesses of the LORD.” “I will remember the deeds of the LORD; yes, I will remember your miracles of long ago” (Ps. 77:11).
“Remember the day you stood before the LORD your God” (Deut. 4:10).
