To him be glory both now and forever!

2 Peter 3:18

Heaven will be filled with the unceasing praise of Jesus. O eternity, your unending years will speed down their everlasting road—yet forever and forever “to him be glory!” Isn’t Jesus “a priest forever, in the order of Melchizedek” (Ps. 110:4)? “To him be glory!” Isn’t He “King for ever” (Ps. 10:16), “King of kings and Lord of lords” (1 Tim. 6:15), and the “Everlasting Father” (Isa. 9:6)? “To him be glory…forever!”

His praise will never cease, for it arises from those bought by His blood, and thus—because of His shed blood—He is deserving of our praise throughout eternity. The glory of the cross must never be obscured and the radiance of His grave and resurrection never dimmed.

O Jesus, You will be forever praised! As long as immortal spirits live—as long as Your Father’s throne endures—forever and forever unto You “be glory”!

Dear believer, you look forward with true anticipation to the time you will join the saints above in giving Jesus the glory due Him, but are you glorifying Him now? The apostle Peter’s words are, “To him be glory both now and forever!”

Why not make this your prayer today:

“Lord, help me to glorify You. I am poor—help me to glorify You through contentment. I am sick—help me to honor You through patience. I have talents—help me to praise You by using them for You. I have time, Lord—help me to redeem it by using it to serve You. I have a heart to feel—let me feel no love but Yours, and let my heart glow with no flame but my affection for You. I have a brain to think—help me to think of You.

“Lord, You have put me in this world for a reason—show me what that is and help me work out my life purpose. I can’t do much, but as the widow put in her two mites—which was everything she had—I place my time and eternity into Your treasury. (See Luke 21:1-4.)

“Lord, I am Yours—take me and enable me to glorify You now in everything I say, in everything I do, and with all I have.”

Even some Christians have said such things as, “If all we’re going to do in heaven is stand around praising God, it will get boring.” What a gross misunderstanding of heaven! Not only are they ignorant of the fact that we will have plenty to do there, but they fail to realize that praising the Lord is much, much more than singing and worship such as we do in church.

Praising the Lord will be a part of everything we do in heaven. If we have misunderstood that, then perhaps we need to be reminded as well that whatever we do in this life should bring praise and glory to Him. The following is a good reminder for each of us:

“Commit to the LORD whatever you do, and your plans will succeed” (Prov. 16:3). “So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God” (1 Cor. 10:31). “And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him. Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men” (Col. 3:17, 23).
