Where Jesus Is

Where Jesus Is

We give thee thanks, O Lord God Almighty, which art, and wast, and art to come.

Revelation 11:17 KJV

To walk where Jesus walked is a thrill. I’ve experienced it as I’ve wheeled over the cobblestone streets of old Jerusalem, wandered the narrow roads of Bethany, and sat outside the home of Mary, Martha, and Lazarus. Oh, to be where Jesus was.

It was late in the day when my husband, Ken, stood on the spot where Jesus preached his Sermon on the Mount, overlooking the Sea of Galilee. As Ken stood facing the west, he began to recite Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount: “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven . . . blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled. . . .” I was gripped by the moment. Not so much to be where Jesus was, but to be where he is right now, showing up through the eyes and smile of my husband. Jesus was alive then, but he’s alive now as Ken gives voice to the words of the Savior. Oh, to be where Jesus is !

Yet the double joy is that Jesus also will be. He’s coming back. Heaven’s about to break on the horizon, and soon God’s feet will touch this earth once more. To be where Jesus was is heartwarming; to know that he is to come soon is heart-pumping. But the most poignant and powerful reality is this: Jesus is !

Notice the order of Revelation 11:17 (KJV), “O Lord God Almighty, which art, and wast, and art to come.” Living in the present reality of Christ breathing life and vitality into our souls is matchless; by his spirit alive within you right now, Jesus is. Your past and the future can’t compare with the power of his immediate presence. I know. I saw it that day on the hill above the Sea of Galilee.

Matchless Savior, awaken my heart to the possibilities and opportunities to fragrance my world with the truth that Jesus is . . . within me.
