1 Samuel 16:7

1 Samuel 16:7

The LORD doesn’t see things the way you see them. People judge by outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart.

Samuel grew up to be a prophet, and when God led him to anoint one of Jesse’s sons as Israel’s next king, Jesse presented Eliab. Because of Eliab’s looks, Samuel thought he was God’s chosen leader. But the Lord reminded Samuel not to judge based on appearance. Jesse didn’t summon his youngest son, David, until the Lord had rejected Jesse’s other sons. But God had seen David’s heart and decided he was the best man for the job. How often do you miss out on gaining potential friends or hiring great employees because you’ve been conditioned to think that those with power, money, or influence make good leaders? Ask God to help you see the hearts of others instead of judging them by their appearance.
