Joshua 24:14-15

Joshua 24:14-15

Serve the LORD alone. But if you refuse to serve the LORD, then choose today whom you will serve. . . . As for me and my family, we will serve the LORD.

In these verses, Joshua is urging the nation of Israel to let go of their idols and serve God alone. Idolatry isn’t just a problem the Israelites faced; it’s an issue every human heart struggles with. When we depend on something other than God to meet a need deep inside us, we are worshiping an idol. Joshua sternly warned God’s people to examine their hearts and choose whom they would serve. What things are you tempted to use to fill the holes in your heart? Perhaps money? Food? Success? Material possessions? Have an honest conversation with God about them as a first step to committing yourself and your household to serving God alone.
