Luke 6:37-38
Luke 6:37-38
Do not judge others, and you will not be judged. . . . Forgive others, and you will be forgiven. Give, and you will receive. Your gift will return to you in full—pressed down, shaken together to make room for more, running over, and poured into your lap. The amount you give will determine the amount you get back.
It may seem as though Jesus is talking about two different things: judging others and generous giving. But these actions are actually linked to each other. Jesus calls us to generosity, especially in the area of forgiveness. Forgiving someone who has wronged you is good, but generous forgiveness—desiring good in the life of the one who wronged you—takes it a step further. Whichever you choose determines the amount of forgiveness you will receive. Whom might God be asking you to generously forgive?
