Baptism Of An Adult

LORD, today I will witness the baptism of my friend and joyfully celebrate her faith. Even though I have seen many baptisms, each one I attend stirs something deep inside me. I feel joy and wonder, mixed with mystery. It’s been beautiful to watch my friend’s faith grow and hear her declare that she wants to follow you.

None of us can follow you perfectly, Lord Jesus. This was the case in your disciples’ lives, men who sometimes failed despite their best intentions. You are the only person who never wandered, but lived in perfect fellowship with your heavenly Father. Even so, you have instructed us to embrace the act of baptism as a sign of our spiritual union with you.

On this day, Lord, make yourself known intimately to my friend, as she keeps her focus on you. Please imprint on her mind your lasting calling, and may you strengthen, guide, and continue the good work which you have begun in her life. May all of us who witness this event provide our friendship and support in the days to come. Amen.
