Prayer That Seems Unanswered
KIND JESUS, WHO UNDERSTANDS SUFFERING, I know I’m not the only person who has experienced the discouragement of seemingly unanswered prayers. What I often forget is your own prayer that didn’t go the way you hoped or asked.
In the garden of Gethsemane, you were nearly crushed by the anguish and stress you were enduring; you actually sweated drops of blood. You were about to be betrayed and crucified. Three times you pled with your Father to take away your suffering; yet each time you said, “Not my will, but yours.”
Oh, sweet Jesus, your pain was horrible, much greater than any pain of ours. Your pain wasn’t just yours alone. You took on the pain and sin of the whole world.
It’s comforting to see that in your humanity, you struggled. You can relate to my suffering. And just as you drew strength from your relationship with God, I can do the same.
Jesus, your unanswered prayer made it possible for all of us to be forgiven and experience peace with God. Our grateful hearts swell with thanks to you.
