Clothing Fit For A Princess

Don’t be concerned about the outward beauty of fancy hairstyles, expensive jewelry, or beautiful clothes. You should clothe yourselves instead with the beauty that comes from within, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is so precious to God.

1 Peter 3:3-4

As God’s princess, you can shine in this world. One way to shine is by dressing like a princess. You may have had a princess costume when you were young or dressed up as Cinderella, Belle, Snow White, or Aurora in a princess ball gown, complete with toy shoes and a tiara. That’s one way to dress like a princess.

Another way to dress like a princess is to wear clothes that are not only attractive but also modest. Clothing that is modest doesn’t show more of your body than is appropriate. Sometimes it’s hard to find clothing that is both cute and appropriate, but with careful shopping, you and your mom can find clothes that are inexpensive, trendy, and modest.

The first thing to do is to discuss what modesty means to you and your mom. Should your shorts and skirts be no more than two inches above your knees? Or will you use the rule that when you put your arms straight down, your shorts and skirts will at least touch your fingertips? Or will you pair cute leggings or tights with skirts for extra modesty and a stylish look?

Decide what types of shirts you’ll wear too. Are spaghetti straps and tank tops okay, or will your shirts have sleeves? What about the neckline? This might not be something you worry about too much at your age, but it will become much more important as you enter your teen years. When it’s hard to find modest necklines, layer shirts or put a high-cut tank top under a low-cut T-shirt.

Swimsuits can be a problem. Finding one that is both modest and stylish is challenging. You may end up ordering a swimsuit online to find one that is suitable for a princess.

The clothes you wear are a reflection of who you are. Ask a parent to help you find clothes that reflect your true beauty and allow you to look trendy while being modest.

Go through the clothes you already have. Do they pass the modesty test? If not, are there ways you can layer them or add tights or another accessory to make them more modest? If you aren’t really into fashions and clothes yet, this might be a good time to look at what’s available and start building your own look.
