Heavenly Rooms

There is more than enough room in my Father’s home. If this were not so, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you? When everything is ready, I will come and get you, so that you will always be with me where I am.

John 14:2-3

Picture your dream bedroom. What paint color would be on the walls? Would you decorate it with posters? Or pictures of your best friends? Would your room have a lamp or a ceiling fan with an overhead light? A blanket with characters from your favorite movie or a plain one in your favorite color? What furniture would it have? Bunk beds? A desk for you to write at? Your dream room might have a sports theme or perhaps a movie theme or just all your favorite colors.

Do you know that God is preparing a special room for you?

No one knows exactly what heaven will be like, but the Bible describes a new heaven and a new earth where the walls of the city will be covered with precious stones like sapphires and emeralds. The gates of the city will be made of pearl, and the streets will be covered by pure gold.

What kind of room will you have in heaven? God didn’t share all the details in the Bible. But God is a creative God. Just look at all the different things in nature—clouds, trees, sky, grass, and animals. We can guess that he’ll use that same creativity in designing our heavenly homes. And it may be that he is specially designing each room for the person who will live there. Pictures often show heaven as having elaborate mansions of gold, but we don’t know if that’s what heaven will look like. One thing is for sure, though—whatever kind of room he’s preparing for you, it will be just perfect.

Although you don’t know what your eternal home will look like, you can be sure that God is creating a very special place for you. Read Revelation 21, and list the things it says about your heavenly home.
