Asking For Grace

Asking For Grace

Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.

Galatians 6:2

I’ve been working on the idea of more love, less hustle for a long time: writing about it, circling around it, messing up and trying again. I suspect I’ll be working on it for a long time to come, that this is one of my things that will never quite get solved. That’s okay. I’m still trying.

What I’m learning is that it’s okay to ask for help and ask for grace, even if it’s embarrassing, even if you disappoint people, even if in the process people find out (gasp!) that you’re not a super-person, but just a regular person, a person who gets sick and tired and emptied out sometimes. That’s the less hustle part of the deal.

I wanted to start this year strong and organized, focused and rested. Instead I’m starting it sick and wobbly, wrapped in a blanket, with Christmas cards that still haven’t been sent, asking for help and grace, undoing and staying in, because life is a teacher and God is good—and also hilarious. This year so far has been slow and strange, full of surprises and full of love, so I feel like we’re off to a very good start.

More love and less hustle, indeed.

GIVE OTHERS the gift of accepting their help when you need it. So often, people would love to help us. What would it look like for you to let yourself be helped?
