God’s Love - The One Year Book of Bible Promises

This is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.

John 3:16

THIS FAMOUS VERSE tells us a great deal in one sentence.

First, it reveals that God loves us. Each of us. No matter where we are, what we’ve done, how old or young we are, or what we believe about him. If we need assurance that he cares about us personally, this verse gives it completely.

Second, the verse shows us that God paid the price for our redemption, gladly and with finality. God doesn’t love only his followers. Instead, he fixed the most basic problem that keeps all of humanity from enjoying fellowship with him: sin. Jesus paid the death penalty that we would otherwise have to pay ourselves. He made it possible for us to be forgiven and to live in heaven.

Third, this verse says that God offers this salvation to all people, anywhere, at any time. We must only have faith. Just believe it. Accept that Jesus died for our sins, that God loves us.

Last, this verse shows that God gives us the ultimate reward and gift— eternal life—for the simple act of believing. This is the greatest gift ever for the smallest action on our part.

You don’t have to climb Mount Everest. You needn’t become a superhero to gain heaven. All you have to do is believe in Jesus as Savior and Lord.
