Jesus told [Martha], “I am the resurrection and the life. Anyone who believes in me will live, even after dying. Everyone who lives in me and believes in me will never ever die. Do you believe this, Martha?”

John 11:25-26

ONE OF JESUS’ primary missions in coming to our planet was to defeat death permanently. The hold the prospect of death has on all of us is a tremendous cause of anxiety in our world. Many people live in terror of what happens when we die. They have an intrinsic sense that death is not the end, that they will face God and answer for all their sins, mistakes, and errors.

Jesus, though, vanquished death once and for all. When Jesus rose from the dead, Satan’s trump card ended up on the ash heap. No longer would Christians need to fear standing up for the truth and living it out. Never again should we quake when threatened with death for being believers. Satan had nothing with which to force us to do his will any longer.

Do you have a fear of death? If you are a believer, there is no reason to fear. To be sure, many people fear the process of dying. That’s normal. But what comes after that should never scare any of us. Jesus gives us a guarantee that we will live with him in heaven, where death will never touch anyone, ever again.
