Breakfast With Jesus
Breakfast with Jesus
Q: What did Jesus serve the disciples for breakfast?
- a. fruit and cereal
- b. fish and bread
- c. manna and quail
One night after the Resurrection, several of the disciples went out fishing. Dawn came, but they hadn’t had any success. Jesus was standing on the beach, but the disciples couldn’t tell who he was. He called out, “Have you caught any fish?”
When the disciples said they hadn’t caught anything, Jesus told them to cast their net on the other side. The disciples did, and they caught so many fish that they couldn’t pull the net in! Then the disciples realized it was Jesus on the shore. When they got to shore with their overloaded net, Jesus had already cooked them fish. He served it to them with bread.
Why did Jesus cook breakfast for the disciples? Jesus cared about his disciples. He fed them spiritually during his ministry on earth, and now he was feeding them physically. Jesus wanted to spend some special time with the disciples before he went back to heaven. Daybreak on the beach may have been the best time to be together.
For You
Jesus wanted to spend time with his disciples. God wants to spend time with you. Why not set aside extra time this week? Read one story about Jesus from the Gospels to review something you’ve learned. If you aren’t sure where to read, try Matthew 8:28-34 or Mark 5:21-43.
