Dare To Be A Daniel

Dare to Be a Daniel

Q: Daniel was thrown into the lions’ den for doing which of these things?

  • a. fighting
  • b. praying
  • c. prophesying

Have you ever known someone who was so jealous of another person that he or she tried to hurt that person or damage his or her reputation? The rulers who served with Daniel were like that.

Daniel, 80 years old now, was one of the top three administrators in the kingdom of the Medes and Persians. The other officials were jealous, but they couldn’t find anything wrong to criticize Daniel about. So they tricked King Darius into making a law. The law said that it was illegal to pray to anyone other than King Darius for the next 30 days. Offenders would be thrown into the lions’ den. The law couldn’t be changed by anyone, not even the king.

As was his custom, Daniel continued to pray to God three times a day in his upstairs room with his window open. Daniel’s enemies took him to the king. King Darius was unhappy because he liked Daniel. But there was nothing the king could do.

Daniel was thrown into the lions’ den, but God protected him. The next morning King Darius hurried to the den and called, “Daniel, servant of the living God! Was your God, whom you serve so faithfully, able to rescue you from the lions?”

“Long live the king! My God sent his angel to shut the lions’ mouths so that they would not hurt me, for I have been found innocent in his sight,” Daniel answered.

Daniel was released, and the men who had been responsible for putting him in the den were thrown to the lions.

Despite the new law, Daniel stood firm in his faith and prayed the way he’d always done. God honored that and protected Daniel.

For You

Daniel remained strong in his faith his entire life. Never once did he compromise his faith or worship God in secret. Do you have the courage to live your faith out loud and up front like Daniel?

Answer: b

They told the king, “That man Daniel, one of the captives from Judah, is ignoring you and your law. He still prays to his God three times a day.”   Daniel 6:13
